Hubballi: The process of merging the Konkan Railway Corporation with Indian Railways is underway, and three states have already given their approval. A final decision is expected after the Maharashtra Assembly elections, said Union Minister of State for Railways, V. Somanna.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Minister Somanna highlighted that the Konkan Railway network spans across Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa, and Kerala. Out of these, Karnataka, Kerala, and Goa have agreed to the merger with Indian Railways. However, approval from Maharashtra is still pending.
The minister added that once the Maharashtra elections conclude, the merger process would accelerate. He assured that following the merger, comprehensive development of the railway infrastructure, including platforms, would be undertaken under Indian Railways.
