Send Push
Delhi-NCR is home to millions, and people use various modes of transportation to get around—some prefer cars, others take buses, but for many, the Delhi Metro is the most popular choice. Known as the lifeline of Delhi-NCR, the Metro is a convenient and reliable way for over 5 million passengers to commute daily.

The introduction of the Delhi Metro in 2002 marked a major shift in the region’s transportation system, with the first train running on the Red Line. Since then, it has expanded across the city and its neighboring areas, making travel easier and helping reduce traffic congestion.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation ( DMRC ) oversees the entire Metro system, including the enforcement of rules and regulations for passengers. Just like trains, you are required to carry a valid ticket while using the Metro.

What Happens If You Travel Without a Ticket ?

If a passenger is caught traveling without a ticket on the Delhi Metro, the DMRC will take strict action. As per Section 69 of the Delhi Metro rules , a fine of ₹50 will be imposed on any passenger found traveling without a valid ticket.

Fine for Traveling in the Women's Coach

The DMRC also enforces rules to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers. If a male passenger is found traveling in the women’s coach, he will be fined ₹250 under Section 64 (1) of the Delhi Metro Railway Act 2002. This is to ensure that women have a safe and reserved space for their commute.

Penalties for Other Violations

When traveling in the Delhi Metro, passengers are expected to follow rules to maintain order and cleanliness. One of the common violations is making a mess or sitting on the floor while traveling. According to Section 59, if a passenger is found violating these rules, a fine of ₹200 will be imposed for creating a nuisance or compromising the cleanliness of the Metro.

The Delhi Metro is a vital part of daily life in Delhi-NCR, and the DMRC has set clear rules to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for everyone. Whether it’s ensuring you have a valid ticket or respecting the reserved coaches and cleanliness, following these rules helps maintain the efficiency of the Metro system. Violations can result in fines, so it’s important to be aware and comply with the regulations while using the Delhi Metro.
